Ophthalmology

We accept ophthalmology second opinion cases at Springwell. Cases are seen by Suzy Robinson. Suzy is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Ophthalmology, having achieved her postgraduate certificate in 2021. She has had an interest in ophthalmology since 2015 and very much enjoy seeing both medical and surgical eye cases.

Suzy has advanced examination equipment to aid diagnosis of ocular conditions, as well as microsurgical instruments and magnification to enable her to perform delicate surgeries. We are able to diagnose and treat most types of eye problem, including:

  • Cherry eye (prolapsed nictitans gland)
  • Entropion and other conformational eyelid problems
  • Eyelid growths
  • Distichia and ectopic cilia (treatment options include cryotherapy)
  • Corneal ulcers – in both cats and dogs, deep and superficial ulcers, including those that might need surgery to place grafts
  • Dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca)
  • Uveitis
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Tear drainage problems
  • Traumatic injuries and corneal foreign bodies
  • Diagnosis of vision problems…
  • …and more!

We are always happy to advise on the suitability of cases and, if possible before examination, give an estimate of possible costs. There are some eye cases, such as cataracts or extremely severe corneal ulceration, which Suzy cannot treat and in those cases we would recommend referral to an RCVS Specialist Ophthalmologist.
